A Month-by-Month Comparison of Earnings…
…From my monthly writing prompts stories.
On the back of the collapse of Medium earnings that many writers have lamented of late, I thought it would be interesting to explore the earnings of a specific set of my own stories – the writing prompts that I share at The Fiction Writer’s Den.
These can provide us with a useful month-by-month comparison. While you can never really allow for other variables (e.g. the image and title chosen, how widely read my other stories were in a particular month, how engaging the actual prompts were, etc), at least I can say:
- I published each story at the start of the month;
- All are by the same author, in the same publication;
- All had the same target audience;
- All were roughly of the same length.
It’s also interesting because these have generally been some of my better read and earning stories, while never reaching the dizzy heights of getting boosted.
