Thanks to Jann Christoph von der Pütten and to New Writers Welcome for the question that inspired this week’s story-slash-reflection.

I’m taking the opportunity to combine it with my usual weekly Medium update (see last week’s update here).

The prompt: Tell us everything about your writing space.

This was actually a prompt for June and therefore long since expired, but as Jann challenged me (as well as Kathy K and Cathylouise), I’m happy to give it a go! You can see Kathy’s response here, and check out Jann’s response to the prompt too.

When I was a kid, I wrote anywhere… and I wrote infrequently. I was keen to become a writer, but I hadn’t yet developed a writing habit.

That all changed when I got a job in a city across the country. My journey involved:

  • A 20-minute cycle to the train station.
  • A 1-hour train journey.
  • A ten minute walk through the city centre.
  • A further short train journey.
  • Another walk to my destination.
